      Alcoa is looking for a Senior Mechancial Designer in Davenport, Iowa with 5 years experience in plant engineering design.

      This postiion is within Alcoa's North American Rolled Products(NARP) Business Unit. NARP produces the widest variety of aluminum sheet and plate products in the world. Our aluminum is the foundation for many product serving customers in a wide range of industries, including Aerospace, Building and Construction, and Automotive Systems and Distribution.

      This Sr. Mechanical Engineer is located at our Davenport Works location and will report to the Design Engineering Supervisor. The principle challenge of this position is to provide functional, safe, economical and progressive designs for equipment and facilities to produce the quantity and quality of product required by our customers. The Senior Mechanical Designer is responsible for the design phase of assigned major projects involving equipment, structures, facilities and process needs supporting the Engineering Divisions.

      Accountability Objectives:

      *Plan, coordinate and execute equipment layouts and complex designs for new plant machinery, process equipment and facilities.

      *Take a leading roll in planning and scheduling design work with in-house Design or Contract Design personnel.

      *Provide coordination of tasks to insure maximum design support at minimal cost.

      *Analyze design requirements and apply common practice, engineering principles, safety practices, standards to produce innovative solutions on a timely basis.

      *Assist plant Engineers in installation and trouble shooting of equipment.

      *Stay current with process and equipment technology and design practices.

      *Take a leading role in problem solving for machinery problems.

      *Provide theoretical analysis based on engineering principles for static and dynamic strengths, mass properties, strength of materials, and material applications.

      *Evaluate and apply appropriate design and engineering tools such as hardware and software to facilitate the completion of design tasks. Take a leading role in application of software including coordination and training for other Engineering, Design and Drafting personnel.

      *Actively participate in Department function including evaluation of procedures and performance and contribute to change and improvement in all activities.

      Basic Qualifications:[/b]

      *Associates Degree in design or engineering
      *5 years experience with plant engineering design including plant layout of machinery, plant maps, mechancial and process equipment, and facilities.
      *Experience providing new ideas and concepts for design

      Skills:
      *Creative ability to provide new design idea and solutions to problems
      *Ability to work with cross functional teams
      *Effective written and oral communication skills
      * Ability to handle multiple projects providing accurate designs
