Hi, I am Naoki. I am an engineer in Japan.

I have a simple question about a sentence of API 610 11th edition.

API 610 11th para6.1.1 describes as follows as an additional sentence from the previous edition API 610 10th.

"Shutting down the equipment to perform vendor-specified maintenance or inspection does not meet the continuous interrupted operation requirement."

I do not know the reason why the sentence should be added to the previous edition of API 610 10th.

What is the intention of the author?

Does the author just intend to emphasize that vendor should not specify the maintenance or inspection period less than 3 years of uninterrupted operation?

I am looking forward to receiving your opinions.

      Thank you in advance.

      Hi Naoki,

From my reading of the standard, the author means that any maintenance in the first 3 years (whether scheduled or not) interrupts the operation.
The pump would therefore not meet the standard.

      Regards Alex.

      Hi eckcop,

      Thank you very much indeed.

You are the first person in reponse to my question.

I work for a pump manufacturer in Japan.

Manufacuring the API pumps which requires no maintenance for 3 years is very interesting challenge for us.

Thank you again for your kind reply.

      Regards,

      Naoki
