Spearfish is the UK Royal Navy’s front line anti-submarine and anti-surface torpedo. Modern submarines require sophisticated defensive and offensive underwater weapons to engage a wide range of surface and subsurface targets. Wire guided torpedoes provide this capability and Spearfish is one of the most powerful and capable wire guided torpedoes on the market. Currently undergoing a major upgrade programme, Spearfish will soon benefit from further sophisticated advances in its homing, warheads, tactical and fuelling systems, as well an upgraded guidance link. We provide full support of Spearfish to the UK Royal Navy through a dedicated support contract. Your main responsibilities as a Senior Design Officer (Mechanical): Conducting design office activities in a professional manner, delivering producible electro-mechanical design drawing solutions to agreed time, and quality to meet project milestones Incorporating Engineering Change requests into existing drawings and specifications Capturing and understanding user requirements and design aims in the preparation of layouts, detail design and drawings together with all lists and documentation to communicate design intent to manufacturers and customers Ensuring that all work is undertaken in accordance with company, safety, environmental, contractual and local business processes, standard, procedures and documentation Ensuring that relevant calculations are made where necessary and/or specialist assistance is obtained for design traceability, verification and design certification Liaising with Engineers to ensure that all other related customer/project requirements are incorporated into a producible form, embodying value engineering/design manufacture considerations Liaising with MoD establishments, test facilities, sub-contracts and customers as required, satisfying the needs of the project or business Your skills and qualifications as a SeniorDesign Officer (Mechanical): An appropriate and recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification or experience to offset Experience in Mechanical Engineering Environment Understanding in the use of Pro-Engineer CAD or similar tool Understanding of 3D modelling application Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications Working knowledge of the Engineering Data Management system (SAP Configuration Management System) would be advantageous Knowledge and experience of Engineering Lifecycle Phases This is a full time role and will be based in BroadOak. The job grade for this role is 17 and we are offering a salary starting from £36,000+.
