So, if you are a university student with your university registered in the world university database. You can get Autodesk softwares on a student liscense for 3 years. I guess that is pretty cool. PS AutoCAD mechanical and Inventor are very powerful and commercially used in mechanical engineering around the globe. Advantages of learning a software like AutoCAD would be: 1. Many other CAD softwares have same interface making it easy to learn other softwares. 2. Its the most used CAD software in Turkey (maybe most used all around the world). 3. Its free for three years for students. 4. Tonnes of online resources and video tutuorial help available for new users. 5. Simplified interface interms of icons and menus. Nothing is very hard to find. Everything seems to be right in the place where you would be looking for it.
Quite a few of my students seemed to start on Fusion 360 - I guess because it's free for schools, but I'm not really sure how good it is.
Is FreeCAD actually any good? I occasionally see it asked for in online job postings but the interface looks pretty dated. Wouldn't you be better with Fusion? I heard CATIA is much more powerful but might be wrong - I've never actually used it. What sort of things do you use each one for, do you need a powerful computer?
