Can anyone provide some information on how to design brake pads?
I will need the manufacturing process and what type of material to use?

Just had a look around on the web and found a Taiwanese manufacturer's website that has a flow chart of the production process:
      http://luckyparts.english.eyp.com.tw/ey ... egory=1381

They detail each step underneath the flow-chart. It seems that this is just for brake pads like the one they make pictured below:

I think this is the most common type on the market, but I'm sure there are plenty of other types of brake on the maket in different materials.

Here is another manufacturer who seem to make lots of different types:
      http://www.frictionproducts.com/

Maybe you could contact them for some info, or maybe there's more info on the web if you dig deeper.

Please post back if you can find out more info. Can anyone else find any info too?

That's perhaps the manufacturing process covered. I don't know about how to design them. We would need to find a design guide on the web, or it would be good if an automotive mechanical design engineer could post some info on how to design brake pads & what process/material to use.
