How do i design a spring for bypass valve whos opening pressure is known with known area
spring rate * deflection = force. Force / area = pressure.
There's a bit more to it than that.
You want the valve to stay fully closed until the opening pressure is reached and then open as wide as possible with very little increase in pressure.
To achieve this, you need a spring with a low rate, pre-loaded to give the required opening force, this will allow the valve to open at the required pressure but continue to open further without the pressure increasing too much.
