  • [Challenging] Gripping and Rotating A 5x5x20 mm cuboid

      Hi there!Greetings from Singapore!

      I am from an industry that deals with micro parts and have been asked to design a device that can grip and rotate a cuboidal shape part with the dimension of 5 x 5 x 20 mm,horizontally.However,I have not been sucessful in coming up with anything other than meddling with springs,knobs and bearings.

      Any ideas?

      Hi Fire Engine,

      Which axis is to be clamped?
      What is required to be done to the cuboid?
      What access is required to the surfaces?
      What is the material and how much clamping force is required?
      Is continual rotation required or is there a limited angular travel needed?

      Before attempting to solve your problem the above needs to be addressed

      What kind of approach did you adopt?

      I used a combination of
      1)Ball and socket with a locking mechanism (allowing flexibility and mimics the dexterity of a human hand).
      2)A stage with a clamp(with a detent pin).
