Hi, I have started a new job in Aerospace industry and am refreshing my knowledge of heat treatments, surface treatments and coatings, as I have not used them for years. Is there an up to date directory type book or resource that lists all or most surface treatments? I would need description of each process, properties, basic chemical composition, and most important how to produce each desired finish in brief detail.
There used to be a directory by a company called Cannings title went something like "Cannings directory of Surface Finishing" from memory it was approx a 1980's publication . This was a comprehensive book at the time - it may exist in a more current form or a web document. Regards
I'm looking for a similar data source. I've tried ASM's data base. Pretty useless. I understand both coating and surface treatment have moved on since the 80's and techniques must have been developed since?..
I have looked on ASM, SAE and ISO data bases. I am using them as a starting point. I am searching the internet for suppliers and other info by using the standards codes/numbers. This brings up suppliers, who often list their range of coatings. Then I can find info out for each one, but it is very time consuming.
It may be that it takes up time, thus it is time consuming, but then that is what you are getting paid for isn't it.
