Now we've got vBulletin (the new forum software) up and running, I just wanted to let you know that the next thing on our list is to launch mobile apps for both Android and iPhone!!!!!

Hopefully we'll launch these before Christmas. They'll be free of charge. Horray!

One thing we'd like to do before launching the apps is come up with a new logo for the Mechanical Design Forum. We'll certainly be looking for some ideas and suggestions here (more details to follow), but fundamentally we want:

1) Something that can be easily read.
2) Part of it needs to be an icon so that we can use it as the app icon and also the favicon (the "M" thing we currently have doesn't really cut it)
3) It would be nice to have a graphical element that is related to mechanical design/mechanical engineering, but no gears please! Everyone uses gears!

Anyway - something to think about... I'll be back with some clearer ideas soon.

OK - back to a pleasant evening fixing vBulletin bugs....

 

Both iPhone and Android apps are now in progress and I hope to submit them for approval during the course of the next couple of weeks.

I'm not ready to announce it yet because I'll wait until the iPhone one is approved by Apple (might be a few weeks) then I will announce them simultaneously.

I actually haven't tried the app yet myself (need to figure out how to use the emulator because I don't have an Android phone), so if you could check it out for me please let me know how you get on!
