I recommend SolidWorks Simulation if you have access to it for FEA. We use Solid Edge CAD program and the Ansys program for FEA at my current employer. Ansys is also very powerful. We work in mechanical automotive drivetrain parts. Join a club or two and apply the class learning to a physical project that you test and break and then figure out why. the www.SAE.org clubs were great for me and my career and networking. Good luck!
