      Design and Development Manager, East Central Scotland, £50-60K*

      Our client is a leading manufacturer of communications equipment with a brand reputation that is synonymous with quality performance and service. They are seeking to recruit a highly experienced product design manager to support and lead the design and development function.

      The Role

      The role needs to engage the talents of the existing team to deliver to their full potential and providing an increased level of service to both internal and external customers. This a broad leadership role that is central to the business, providing an essential link between market demand and customer delivery. Of equal importance is safeguarding brand value and building capability to drive forward the Company’s reputation for quality and innovation.

      Key responsibilities will include:

      • Leadership of the Design and Development team
      • Developing a customer service culture within the team to support the business and its customers with key technical information
      • To develop new products in liaison with partners, colleagues and customers in anticipation of future customer needs
      • To provide input views and opinions to strategic business decisions, in particular to support the Company sales and marketing strategy and NPD plan

      Candidate Profile

      Candidates will be experienced design engineering managers ideally with an electromechanical background. Time spent working in a business that works with high value materials where there is a need for collaboration with suppliers and customers through the design cycle are essential.

      They must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of 'world leading' product and how to design at the cutting edge, in particular how this has the potential for creation of business advantage.

      Key Attributes

      • Strong mechanical engineering design and development background with some knowledge of electronics
      • Team management skills gained in a dynamic environment
      • Evidence of the ability to produce clear and concise development plans
      • Extensive experience in a 'leader's role', developing, coaching and managing a team
      • An understanding of emerging technologies and advanced design

      Personal Qualities

      • Meticulous and detail conscious with a natural passion for delivering high levels of service and driving others to do the same
      • Strong interpersonal skills with a high level of personal stature and credibility, able to inspire and motivate high levels of performance
      • Able to influence motivate and encourage teamwork in a 'matrix' relationship that includes the client base
      • Committed, motivated and robust
