Has anyone got any links to good design guides for injection moulding? It can be a link to something that's already on the web, or something that you've written yourself. I'll start with a couple I found on the web: From efunda: http://www.efunda.com/DesignStandards/plastic_design/plastic_intro.cfm From DSM Engineering Plastics: http://www.dsm.com/en_US/html/dep/coring.htm Please post any link you find on this thread. I think when we have a good list we can rate them all and choose the best ones for linking to as a resource on the homepage perhaps.
Some useful stuff on the moulding process here: http://www.aaue.dk/bm/mfg/mfg-injection-molding-1.pdf Also some design guidelines here: http://www.quickparts.com/PDF/LVIM/Inje ... nGuide.pdf
I have some articles that could be of use for you if you send me your email I will send them to you, it is mainly about Conformal Cooling method for Injection Molding. This method reduces cycle time by at least 40% sometimes even up to 70%. This method is about putting cooling and or heating channels within the tool or tool insert. You can not CNC these they would have to be done using a DMLS machine. However traditionally these parts from the DMLS machine will last longer and of course get you parts much faster with this method. The process does cost a bit more than CNC but it is highly worth it! Here's one that is not bad: http://www.engineersedge.com/injection_molding.htm http://www.engineersedge.com/manufactur ... review.htm
Not really a guide, but I posted a fairly comprehensive checklist this morning: Injection Molded Plastic Part Design Checklist
This is a good source http://www.injection-molding-resource.o ... orials.htm also, for plastic part design in general, you cant beat this (for free).... www.sino-mould.com.cn/images/plastic-mold-design.pdf
Bayer Material Science has a comprehensive set of part and tooling design guidelines here: http://www.bayermaterialsciencenafta.com/resources/index.cfm?f=10247629-D94D-FDDD-B63BB6BDC92B451A
