      Hello everyone.
      I am the worst person when it comes to math, that being said, i am looking for help, My situation,
      I am about to purchase a large grandfather clock my ceiling height is 96in the clock measurements are height 91in width 23in and depth 14in, the clock will be carried in horizontally and than stood up, my question is will the clock clear my ceiling when stood up from a horizontal position, also what would be the max dimensions of the clock to clear an 8ft ceiling.

      I could be wrong, but my immediate impression is that you are correct. You need the diagonal dimension making a rectangle out of the height and depth.
      It's the square root of (91^2+14^2), which comes out to just over 92" so you should be ok.
      Technically, if the formula above comes out to less than 8ft [The square root of (Length squared + Depth squared)], you should theoretically be able to fit it under an 8ft ceiling (taking nothing else into account).

      That`s great, thank you for your help, you are corrected, since the initial asking of my question, i stumbled across calculator soap and found your number is the same, I made plans to purchase the clock knowing now it will fit.

      As the above figures are calculated by using the standard formula you can rely on them very easily. That's great you get a perfect solution!
      Now you can easily decide what type of watch gets adjusted with your ceiling.
