I personally think the EV concept needs a new approach. Instead of spending hours recharging the EV the user just swaps the discharged battery with a charged one. The exchange time would be less than it took to fill a standard car with gasoline. You drive into a narrow lane just like you now drive into an auto carwash. When you drive into this narrow lane a red light comes on. You engage your parking brake and then sit back while the exchanger exchanges your discharged battery with a charged one. Turnaround time would be about 5 minutes.
I haven't looked into it, but I can tell you that this idea has been floating around for a long time. I suspect the massive size and weight of the battery is a big factor, but, again, I haven't looked into it. It does appear to be have been universally discarded, for one reason or another. EDIT: Quick google search. It appears it is not quite dead as an idea yet: https://www.forbes.com/sites/neilwi...ectric-car-charging-networks/?sh=5fcead3b1b1b Several other hits from major publications. It doesn't mean it's a good idea - solar roadways stubbornly won't seem to die, despite being among the worst engineering ideas of modern times - but it's not dead yet. It might be a great idea, by the way. I don't have an opinion, as I haven't spent the research time necessary to form one.
