Any recommendations for a good introduction to GD&T? I have a basic drawing reference book but need something that covers principals involved etc. What have you found useful? Do you use it all the time - or just for certain projects?
I have a set of printed notes from a course I went on which was really good. I try to use GD&T when I need to but I try not to overdo it. As great a system as it is I know that many don't understand it or misinterpret it which can be very frustrating.
It was with Iain Macleod Associates. The one I went on was in Preston, but I think they hold them at different venues over the UK depending on who's going. The course I went on was 3 days.
Geo-Metrics GD&T book I have been using the Geo-Metrics III book by Lowell W. Foster for several years. It has some great examples, similar to the ASME Y14.5 spec. I use the book on certain projects that require more complicated feature controls.
I use 'Fundamentals of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing' by Alex Krulikowski. Publisher is Delmar. Covers a wide range and is accessible. Also based on ASME Y14.5.
A great reference book that I use when teaching GD&T is Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Fundamentals by Dan Medford (a shameless plug). This book covers the fundamental aspects of 1994 AND 2009. It's the only book out there that teaches both standards simultaneously with comparisons.
