      This position is responsible for planning, evaluating, designing and modelling of manufacturing equipment, both local and global, that pertain to the continuous improvement of current and future production lines, and related equipment, where catalysts are precision coated and where a high degree of automation is expected. The incumbent’s responsibilities begin at scope creation and go through to commissioning and internal customer support, while ensuring project specifications are met. As a member of a team, a high degree of interaction is required between the position and other team members as well as other functions within the business unit such as Project, Process and Controls Engineering, maintenance and line technicians.

      Principal Accountabilities

      • Conducts and directs studies to determine requirements of new equipment.
      • Designs and models new equipment and processes, or modifications to existing, as needed.
      • Generation of standard engineering calculations.
      • May evaluate products, parts or processes for cost efficiency and reliability.
      • Considers and involves engineering, maintenance and the end users in the design of automated equipment and processes.
      • Routinely utilize Solidworks, AutoCAD, PDM software as well as drafting equipment and peripherals
      • Performs drawing reviews and drawing checks as needed.
      • Interact extensively with vendors, contractors, production and maintenance both locally and globally, as needed.
      • Assist in the development of and compliance with company policies and procedures for drawing creation and storage.
      • Incumbent will comply with all Johnson Matthey Hazardous Waste procedures, and local state and federal regulatory requirements.
      Knowledge, Skills, and Educational Requirements

      • 10 years related work experience designing automated electro-mechanical equipment.
      • Must have 5 years’ experience in designing automated equipment and tooling in a manufacturing environment.
      • Preferred undergraduate degree in Engineering / Design discipline.
      • Must have a minimum 6 years’ experience using Solidworks. CSWP certification strongly preferred. Must understand the proper techniques for modelling complex mechanical devices and be proficient with the more obscure or advanced Solidworks features.
      • Must be well versed in GD&T practices as well as applying fits and tolerances.
      • Proficient with CAD management software, Solidworks EPDM a plus.
      • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) a plus.
      • Although not used extensively, a proficiency in AutoCAD is needed.
      • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Products.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
      • Solid problem solving abilities.
      • Self-motivated with the ability to work on an independent basis.
      • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle working on multiple projects at once.
      Proficiency with Solidworks is necessary to be considered for this opportunity. Experience in similar modelling software will not be considered.
