      Summary of Position
      This is a unique position for a candidate that aspires to be part of a dynamic Engineering/Design team. This position is intended for someone that has acquired the necessary education and training, but lacks significant years of experience. The position is accountable for designing, modelling and detailing in a supportive role on an engineering team focused on the continuous improvement of current and future production lines, and related equipment, both local and global. As a member of a team, a high degree of interaction is required between the position and other team members as well as other functions within the business unit.

      Principal Accountabilities

      • Transforming initial rough design sketches or conceptual models into finalized 3D models and prepares thorough 2D detail drawings.
      • Creating Bill of Materials (BOM), assembly drawings, and work directly with vendors to request quotes and answer technical questions relating to the design.
      • Pickup on projects started by Design Engineers and carries them through to completion.
      • Organize drawings along with Bill of Materials (BOM)’s to produce complete, thorough and easy to follow drawing packages, that can be sent directly to a variety of manufactures locally and internationally for fabrication.
      • Review mechanical specifications to ensure compliance to project requirements.
      • Use standard engineering calculations in combination with vendor catalogs and websites to appropriately size various components.
      • Collaborate with engineering staff and others as needed, but also be able to work with minimal supervision.
      • Routinely utilize Solidworks, AutoCAD, PDM software as well as drafting equipment and peripherals.
      • Performs drawing reviews and drawing checks as needed.
      • Interact extensively with vendors, contractors, production and maintenance both locally and globally, as needed.
      • Comply with company policies and procedures for drawing creation and storage.
      • Incumbent will comply with all Johnson Matthey Hazardous Waste procedures, and local state and federal regulatory requirements.
      Knowledge, Skills, and Educational Requirements

      • Recommended undergraduate degree in Engineering / Design discipline.
      • 3 years’ work experience related to designing mechanical equipment.
      • Must have a minimum 3 years’ experience using Solidworks. CSWP certification preferred. Must understand the proper techniques for modelling complex mechanical devices and be proficient with the more obscure or advanced Solidworks features.
      • Knowledge of GD&T practices as well as applying fits and tolerances.
      • Experience with CAD management software, Solidworks EPDM a plus.
      • Must be proficient in AutoCAD and be well versed on the usage of Paperspace and X-refs.
      • Good working knowledge of MS Office Products.
      • Good verbal and written communication skills.
      • Solid problem solving abilities.
      • Self-motivated with the ability to work on an independent basis.
      • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle working on multiple projects at once.
