Hello all I would like to get into Design field.... I didnt mean any CAD modelling jobs... what I mean Design field here is some thing related to stress analysis (i.e) Designing based on the requirement of clients. And I also like to improve the old product by modifying the existing model or adding some additional features. I would also like to develop new product which I am thinking in my mind... Please tell me what are all the companies promotes this kinds of work and as a fresher how can i go there and in what field I need to get experience so that I made my self as a satisfied employee in near future.
Lots of companies do stress analytics, However, you really will need to get a masters degree in that particular focus. Most companies that I know of that do the that type of work you are interested are defense related, but most research and development departments improve existing designs as well as create new products. Have you thought about pressure vessel design? Piping? Structural? Oil & Gas is big right now after coming off a significant low point. Many large international engineering companies are hiring talent direct from universities. If you want to do stress analysis and design to customer requirements, there is plenty of that in oil & gas. Designs are mostly regulated to codes and industry standards and has little in the way of creativity, BUT if you really want to do stress analysis, pressure vessel & piping would be an a field with plenty of it. You look at pipe or a pressure vessel and think they are simple little things, and some can be very simple. When investigating localized loadings, wind and seismic loads, customized flanges, expansion joints, and a number of other configurations not covered by codes, things can get complex and interesting. If you have not already looked at this field, it may be worth your time.
Thank you D. Naukam U have given me valuable suggestion. I got an offer as steel detailer in one Indian company. And u have mentioned structural as one of the option. Is it a good job to start my career. As steel detailer I will be trained in tekla structures software also. I dont know much about the scope of this job. Please help me to get insight of this job.. and give me ur valuable sugggestion..
@ Wallace: Really your first post on the forum is "how do you know so much..." Since you asked...Licensed professional engineer in Oklahoma USA for mechanical systems. Full time design of heat exchangers and pressure vessels for a local fabricator. Customers include many major oil & gas companies. Part time consulting for a field services group doing B31.3 and B31.8 piping systems for LNG distribution. As for steel detail work, this is a good way option for entry into oil & gas. Platforms, ladders, scaffolding, piping supports, safety railing all fall under steel detail. You may wish to investigate the particular employer to determine if there is room for advancement into engineering for stress analysis. Detail work will give you a good basis for future work. Thank you D. Naukam Today I responded positively towards the offer I mentioned above(steel detailing). I dont know how to get into oil &gas platform after getting into steel detailing first. Can u please elaborate little bit more about this. And I Finished BE mechanical engineer in india. Is there any chance of getting job in foreign countries as a fresher. I have sound technical knowledge in thermal, design and fluid fields.
Steel detail is used in many industries. Oil and Gas is one. Skills can transfer easily. As for international employment, I have no idea what additional difficulties exist. From a viewpoint in the US, there a plenty of international engineers at major firms. It is possible, I just do not know the requirements.
Hey Naukam, thank you for your reply. I didn't notice that it is my first post on the forum. Surprise! I can tell that you must be very experienced. Since I am now still a student, I am really interested to know what is the difference, or what is the gap, between the staffs taught in university and the real work out there. Sometimes I am really confused about what I have learned. It seems that I have learned a lot, but I still have no idea how to implement them. Basically, I can do nothing... So sad. Could you please tell me what is your opinion? Thanks.
