Reporting to the R&D Manager, as Mechanical Design Engineer you will be part of a small team with responsibility for the detailed mechanical design within multi disciplined project team.

Design management varies from complete internal design and manufacture, co-developments with strategic partners and OEM sourced products for the UK and global markets.

As such you will be;

A strong mechanical design engineer conversant with the Unigraphics NX CAD environment.
Able to demonstrate through experience, knowledge of designing injection moulded, cast and machined parts for aesthetic and functional applications,
Well versed in the selection and specification of engineering materials, Ideally having an understanding of how to develop water tight solutions to package electronic parts and able to design components to withstand high pressure applications.
Conversant in the basic engineering principals of structural design, fluid dynamics, heat transfer etc.
Knowledgeable in the management of 3D and 2D technical drawings within the context of a structured NPD process.
Able to utilize tools such as FEA, DFM, DFMEA, PFMEA, Tolerance loop analysis and understand their use within the design process.
Aware of the downstream impact of design on other areas of the business.
Maintaining an up-to-date log book of all work, including any test results,
Within the team structure, collaborating with other engineering disciplines to aid the successful completion of departmental objectives.

The Candidate:

You will be an enthusiastic self-starter and innovative design engineer able to work both independently and as well as part of a team.
You will possess a BEng BScEng or equivalent in a Mechanical Engineering discipline and be experienced in New Product Development, ideally for more than 3 Years.
You are likely to have experience of interface design, HVAC, white goods/washing machines, pool/hydro-spa equipment, drink dispensing, telematics, pumps/valves or fluid handling.
You will have considerable experience in 3D & 2D design within the Unigraphics NX environment. Knowledge of BS8888 would be an advantage.
You will be used to dealing with external standards. Specific knowledge of the specification for safety of household and similar electrical appliances EN 60335/60730 as well as the LVD would be desirable.
You will be methodical in your approach and possess good working practices.
You will need to be an organised individual with attention to detail, processes and systems, and be experienced in compiling data/reports using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
You will need strong verbal and written communication skills.
You will carry out assigned tasks on time, to the required quality and within budget.
You will liaise with other departments/groups to achieve project objectives.
You will have direct contact with customers, partners and suppliers as required.
You will be able to provide formal and informal presentations to internal and external customers,
You must also willing to travel to the Far East to subcontract manufacturer locations and act as an effective ambassador for the company interests.
