My company is in Clarksville TN. We had to design an HVAC exhaust system for a mining farm and the guy who hired me's check bounced. I went to the local PD but they said it is Civil. What am I supposed to do he owes me over 10 grand :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

If you've tried to contact him with no success, you may have to take him to court. Sometimes just the threat is enough. I once had a customer that didn't pay, didn't return phone calls, emails, etc. I finally sent him a certified letter saying if he didn't pay within a week I'd file charges in small claims court. I got the check a couple of days later.

Depending on your jurisdiction, $10K may or may not be above the small claims threshold.

I took someone to court and got a judgment awarded because they didn't show but I still couldn't get him to pay. I sent him to a collection agency and they collected right away. I use them for all my past accounts now because it saves me the time of chasing them, and I've even become an affiliate to sign up other business owners and companies. Accounts Receivable took care of me and you can sign up other businesses too and get paid on what they collect. I agree.. bring the case to the court if they still don't try to make peace with you outside of it.

You can go to department of fraudulent transactions, normally the PD are supposed to suggest this to you. Ask them about it. However, you can also go to the CID (crime investigation department) and this bounced check might turn out to be something more. The best course of action would be to collect some proof to show the CID, bounced check and the banks statement of transaction are important.

It’s a long shot but its always worth 10 grands. I hope you get your money back. You deserve the money you worked for.
