Firstly apologies for the mega post! Apple have unveiled their latest product - the iPad - a touch screen erm... touch screen... laptop / PDA / blackberry device... Stephen fry does a fantastic job of justifying the iPads existance in his blog:
They've done it again. Apple have successfully started the internal arguement in my head! To be honest - i find myself slightly bemused. Stylistically it’s an iProduct. What else were we expecting? I want to love this - I really do! It's straight out of star trek, but.... but why do i need this? To be honest, there is something about holding and owning a book which I really like. Putting it on your shelf, or thumbing through the slightly yellow musty pages. Newspapers I don't buy because I can get free ones on the underground, which when i've finished with, i leave on the train for the next person to read - Reduce Reuse Recycle! From a product design point of view - how would you use this? One advantage of a laptop/notebook is that the screen is angled - you don't obstruct it with your hands and you can sit with a slightly improved posture. With this, I wonder if it will be a little frustrating to hold all the time? if you put it flat on a surface, won't you then have to hunch over to use it? I want to like it. I'm trying SO HARD to like it! I really really want one, but... what would i do with it when i got it?! .... that said, I said the same thing about mobile phones in 2000... Who knew!? Thoughts please!

Pfffffhahah - I love it! I want one of those. Seriously I think life is too cluttered with all these gagets and gismos - just gimme one of those iPads in the video and I'll be happier. Ok my only thoughts on the real iPad are: a. Is it going to be covered in fingerprints after 5 mins and look as if I was using it whilst eating a KFC? b. How do you click on small weblinks precisely? Is the web going to be redesigned with large buttons to allow for fat stubby fingers? c) How do you type? Is there a pop-out keyboard? :?: :shock:
