      Permanent ⁄ £30000 - £50000

      • To undertake design, engineering and development tasks utilising Catia V5 CAD system.
      • To support the Lead Engineer in the day to day running of seating programmes to ensure deliverables are on time and adhere to specification.
      • Substantiate and evaluate designs through 3D analysis, engineering calculations and prototyping.
      • Ensure the design is carried out in accordance to the relevant Airframe Specification.
      • Ensure the design meets the aesthetic and technical ambitions of the customer.
      • Be an effective communicator to ensure departmental requirements are met.
      • To provide technical guidance and mentorship to more junior members of the engineering team.
      • Liaise direct with OEM's, Aircraft Manufacturers and suppliers.
      • Accountable for the safe and reliable design of an aircraft seat across multiple programmes.
      • Working with the Lead Engineer and Certification and Project Engineers to ensure regulatory guidelines and requirements are met.
      Measurement Indicators:
      • Meeting the customer brief in accordance with the programme delivery, weight, cost, project budget and available resource.
      Job responsibilities & activities required to deliver the accountabilities listed above:
      • To take responsibility of the entire seat design, comprising of structural components and assemblies, trimmed parts and mechanisms. Materials include aluminium, steel, plastics and composites, all design work carried out using Catia V5 and SmarTeam.
      • Will undertake design studies and progress their own work through to supporting production. To perform fundamental engineering hand calculations (including stress and stiffness) to substantiate the design of the product.
      • To liaise with external customers to ensure design requirements are understood and achieved. To conduct presentations of their work, internally and at critical reviews to the customer.
      • Liaise with certification and project engineering to ensure their designs meet the structural and aircraft airworthiness requirements.
      • Substantiate their designs from a 3D perspective to ensure clash detection and design for assembly has been evaluated. To validate their design through evaluation of prototypes where appropriate.
      • Manage, track and report out their own work to ensure they meet programme deliverables on time and to the right quality.

      Who we're looking for
      • A Mechanical, Automotive or Aerospace Engineering degree
      • Extensive post graduate experience in a mechanical engineering related field utilising design engineering and CAD for product design engineering, development and manufacture.
      • Must be capable of undertaking fundamental engineering hand calculations including stress analysis.
      • Sufficient exposure to the latest manufacturing techniques such as composites, injection mouldings, vacuum forming, castings, forgings, extrusions and machined from solid.
      • Must prove sufficient parametric 3D CAD capability with both solid and surface modelling using best practice techniques.
      • Must be an excellent communicator both verbally and written.
      • Must be capable of adapting to a fast and pressured environment.

      • Degree achieved at grade 2:1 or above.
      • Experience in an aerospace seating environment.
      • Catia V5 CAD & SmarTeam PDM system exposure.
      • Has shown a consistent ability to problem solve and propose innovative ideas.
      • Finite Element Analysis experience

      What's on offer
      Basic salary c. £30,000 and £50,000 depending on experience.
