      Position: Mechanical Design Engineer
      Position Type: Full-Time / Exempt

      Location: Sunnyvale, CA

      As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will lead the mechanical design and development activities for product development projects. You will be responsible for creating detailed product design specifications to meet our customer requirements. You will collaborate with other team members to create and effectively implement design concepts and technical plans and to construct and evaluate prototypes to meet design specifications. You will lead troubleshooting activities of design issues; perform tolerance analysis of designs and stack-up analysis; conduct technical design reviews and presentations; create design verification and validation plans; design fixtures for testing; direct relevant testing to meet functional and reliability requirements; write detailed protocols and reports.

      • Provide expertise and leadership in the technical understanding of industrial design and mechanical engineering for development organization
      • Provide input into the design of new products to improve their reliability, safety, manufacturability, testability, reproducibility, and design for automation (DFM/Client).
      • Design mechanical concepts, piece parts and subassemblies for new products.
      • Develop testing to explore design space (effect on performance characteristics of variations to design elements).
      • Innovative brainstorming on novel approaches to characterize and qualify processes and tooling with a focus on high capability, poka-yoke mechanical design, control/monitoring, lean, ergonomics, and yield.
      • Work hands on with suppliers of sheetmetal, injected plastics and other materials to develop and execute on tooling.
      • Conduct development, experimental builds and specify production tooling
      • Participate in or lead FMEA for design and processes
      • Provide input for complex project plans for design, process, and equipment.

      • Outstanding communications skills, both written and verbal, with the presence, stature, and confidence to serve as spokesperson for the Company.
      • Open, honest, direct communication style.
      • Must display a high degree of credibility and honesty with both customers and coworkers.
      • A positive, can-do attitude, sense of urgency, energy, and enthusiasm for all that it takes to build an exciting, emerging solar energy company.
      • Have a solid commitment to developing environmentally and financially sound business operations.

      • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or related field or equivalent work experience.
      • 5 plus years industry experience in outdoor, high temperature, polymer, composite or metal electrical equipment enclosures.
      • Experience in designing tooling for injection plastics and sheetmetal
      • Experienced in regulatory safety requirements for electronic enclosures
      • Experienced in use of FDM rapid prototyping.
      • Good understanding of statistics: DOE, Gage R&R, capability analysis, confidence intervals.
      • Good documentation skills: technical plan and report writing
      • Experience with process/product development; tooling design, automation concepts, and machine specifications.
      • Good verbal presentation skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
      • Demonstrated experience in successful management of multiple, simultaneous projects.
      • Cross functional experience, such as experience in engineering, construction/installation, field services and support is highly desired.
      • Experience in weather proof mechanical enclose for photovoltaic system electronics is preferred but not essential.
      • General experience in the solar industry is also preferred but not essential.
      • Start-up company experience or comparable experience is essential.
