      Job Responsibilities

      The Mechanical Engineering Manager leads the Mechanical Engineering team at Synaptics corporate headquarter in Santa Clara, CA. The Mechanical Engineering Manager will directly manage a team of 6 mechanical engineers by providing strong engineering management, technical mentorship and training, and directing and guiding all activities relating to mechanical engineering efforts. The selected individual must demonstrate strong leadership skill and inspire excellence by keeping teams focused on delivering world-class products. He/she shall exercise initiatives and independent judgments in creating structured engineering design processes that promote effectiveness and efficiency. The candidate is also expected to take on the role of global mechanical engineering functional leadership across the worldwide design center organization in a dotted-line reporting fashion. This position reports to the Director of the Americas Design Center within the Synaptics product development organization.
      • Build and lead world-class Mechanical engineering team to expand present capability and drive vision. Supervisory activities include directing the group’s activities relating to mechanical design, product/work process improvements, resource planning and assignment, technical training, and participation in new technology development.
      • Interface with Customers, Suppliers, Contract Manufacturers, and cross functional project teams.
      • Establishes and implements structured engineering design processes and metrics that effectively measure and improve team performance
      • Continuously seeks innovative ways to improve development productivity through the introduction of new technologies, tools, systems, methods, and controls.
      • Drive design of Touch Sensor Module for ease of assembly, modularity and cost optimization.
      • Help specify new materials selection for Sensor Modules/mechanical equipment including ACF bonding, peel strength test, Auto-Clave, and Lens Lamination.
      • Perform and document technical design reviews with other disciplines on the project team to produce the highest level of quality.
      • Selects, develops, and provides guidance, coaching, and mentoring to mechanical engineering staff, including performance management and evaluations
      • Work with customers directly on challenging engineering issues to secure design wins
      • Work with product manufacturing operations and supply management to develop supply chain to meet cost and quality goals

      Required Qualifications

      • BSME with minimum 10 years of related work experience, with demonstrated progressive track record. MSME is a plus.
      • Experience in developing high volume injection molded plastic and sheet metal products, preferably within the consumer electronics industry
      • Past engineering management experience in building high performing engineering teams and supervisory capacity is a strong plus
      • Experience involving design of consumer products which are high volume and low cost. Prior experience with contract manufacturing is a plus.
      • Strong skills using AutoCAD as well as 3D (ProE and/or SolidWorks, with SolidWorks being the preferred tool)
      • Familiar with ECO process, DFx, and ASME 14.5M standard
      • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (both verbal and written), including previous experience at solving highly complex technical issues by collaborating effectively with others and successfully developing solid relationships with customers.
      • Strong technical leadership and management skills, ability to deliver results with small, fast-paced teams, and ability to work across teams
      • Experience designing products for reliability, serviceability, and manufacturability
      • Experienced in creating structured engineering design processes and metrics that effectively measure and improve team performance
      • Strong ability to analyze, introduces, and drives process development improvements
      • Proficient in MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint) and MS Project
      • Ability to travel internationally as required (10% annually)
