Innovative Automation, Inc. is a small and growing Manufacturing Engineering company located in Romulus, Michigan. We have been in business for 15 years and serve clients throughout North America as well as Europe and Asia. We specialize in custom manufacturing solutions designed specifically for the unique requirements of our customers' applications.

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Leader to coordinate our design efforts on special machines, fixtures, gages, an tools. This position will be for a hands-on designer capable of working from conceptualization through design, build and implementation. The position will also be responsible for the leadership and development of our existing group of mechanical designers and additional design staff we anticipate will also be required to meet our growth objectives.

All design work is to be completed using Autodesk Inventor. A background with 3D modeling is required. Ten years of machine design and automation experience is required. Product designers need not apply.

This position will report directly to the Operations manager. Candidate will also be responsible for the coordination of design activities with Controls Engineering. Some level of controls design experience would be desirable but not required. Mechanical knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic actuation is required. Mechanical knowledge of servo control and advanced motion technologies is beneficial.

Although the chosen candidate will focus primarily on mechanical design support there will be considerable opportunity to develop skills in every aspect of manufacturing engineering including customer support, purchasing, machine assembly, as well as debug and installation. Although travel is not a significant part of the anticipated task load some may be required.

This is a great position for a designer looking to take the next step in their career.
