Title: Mechanical Engineer Department: Facilities FLSA Status: Exempt (Salary) Function: The Mechanical Engineer provides technical solutions to support operations, maintenance, and capital projects. Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions of the Position: Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Coordinate departmental and divisional project studies and report preparation assignments. Provide engineering support for mechanical and packaging systems. Provide engineering direction and oversight for mechanical systems and capital projects. Review engineering designs from third party contractors. Develop specifications for mechanical and packaging systems. Perform other duties as required and assigned. Skills and Abilities Required: Technical expertise in cGMP design criteria relative to: equipment specification (OSD, liquids, and creams/ointments); clean utilities; CIP/SIP systems, HVAC; and/or packaging equipment. Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry best practices relative to mechanical design, equipment, layout, and integration with overall plant systems. Proven ability to solve difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedure, and criteria. Familiarity with enhanced commissioning and validation requirements as related to facility and system design. Strong planning, organizational, and leadership skills. Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Excellent presentation skills. Ability to be flexible and take a proactive approach to managing change. Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite including Excel, Work, PowerPoint, and Project. Minimum Education and Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering. Minimum of 3 years of experience in cGMP process and packaging design in pharmaceutical or life science facilities. Minimum of 3 years of experience reviewing HVAC and construction design drawings. Demonstrated experience facilitating working sessions and management/executive level review meetings. Demonstrated experience managing complex risks and issues.
