      Job description

      As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for the Hardware Systems Verification team your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

      • Implement the selected design using Creo 3D CAD and provide all the necessary drawings, CTF dimensions and model to allow the design to be prototyped and manufactured.
      • Schedule and manage peer and cross functional team reviews of your design.
      • Explore solutions suggested by technical leads and, where appropriate, propose alternatives that meet requirements.
      • Structure bill of materials (BOM), release and change for PLM tools.
      • Design heat sinks using input from thermal simulations
      • Manage or perform thermal verification of your design as required. Create reports and suggest design changes.
      • Provide PCB design drawings and 3D files to the ECAD design team. Work with the electrical engineer and PCB layout designer to address placement concerns. Verify the final design of the PCB using the IDF translation method.
      • Work with CMs to address any DFM/ DFA concerns they have.
      • Work in the lab to check the prototypes against the 3D MCAD design. Debug and document manufacturing and design issues that need to be resolved for future builds
      • Root cause analysis of issues found in the lab and communicate findings/ solutions to CM.
      • Track thermal and safety testing, performed at outside labs on your design, to capture and document any additional changes needed.
      • Design to NEB’s, UL, and CE requirements
      • Work with manufacturing to resolve issues - might require on-site visits.
      • Work with other teams on sustaining products currently in production.

      Desired Skills and Experience

      Candidates for this position should have the following skills/experience:

      • BS in Mechanical Engineering + 5 years’ experience, or MS in Mechanical Engineering + 3 years’ experience.
      • Relevant experience in mechanical design of daatcom/telecom rack equipment or cabinet enclosure design preferred.
      • Must be a self starter and able to work with minimum supervision.
      • Able to drive designs from conception thru prototype and full production release.
      • In depth knowledge of sheet metal design, materials and processing for both soft and hard tooling.
      • Strong written and verbal communication skills
      • Good knowledge of BOM, ECO and Deviation processes.
      • Analysis skills including Tolerance Analysis of complex assemblies
      • Experience with Mechanica (PTC Creo Simulate) or similar tools
      • Familiarity with with thermal simulation and air flow testing desirable.
      • Plastic, cast and extruded part design for both cosmetic and non-cosmetic uses.
      • 3+ years’ experience using ProEngineer (PTC Creo).
      • Familiarity with PDMLink (PTC Windchill) desirable.
