A device for lifting a car using water? I think this would have a good mix of material selection, pumping methods and hydraulic calculations.
I used to know of someone who would go to a local disability support shop and ask them what the worst device is in their shop and set the students the task to offer an alternative method/design to accomplish the task. The example I heard of was a device for pouring a kettle for the elderly and infirm. Apparently the existing design was a tilting platform that would be hard to control and led to spillages.
some kind of device e.g. automobile,washing machine,which can be control by iphone.It's cool and students will like it,I think.
