      Hello,

I was wondering how to calculate the effective stress when multiple stress factors are implicated. For example, I know the bottom of a thread acts as a stress concentration, but what if there is a small crack at the bottom of the thread? The crack also acts as a stress concentration, but how do you calculate the total stress in that case? Do you multiply the applied stress by both stress concentration factors or is there like a correction factor that comes in?

These are random numbers, but let’s say the applied stress is 50 psi, the stress concentration from the bottom of the thread is 3.5 and the concentration factor or geometric factor caused by a small crack at the bottom of the thread is 1.12, is the total stress: 1.12 x 3.5 x 50 psi = 196 psi?

      Thank you!
