Seagate in Longmont, CO is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager to join our design center team. This is an exciting opportunity to get involved with developing and designing equipment for Seagate manufacturing facilities worldwide. This position reports to the Senior Director of Servo Format Engineering. In this role you will be responsible for. · Conceives and develops solutions to engineering programs through the application of professionally accepted engineering techniques, practices and procedures. · Responsible for static and/or dynamic design and analysis of mechanical systems, equipment and packages. Typical duties: Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs. Directs support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication. Provides design information to drafting for packaging documentation. Includes mechanical design subspecialties not included in designated engineering job families. · Manage a team of 2 or more engineers responsible for developing and/or supporting products or work processes. · Responsible for maintaining Servo Format equipment in lab and pre-production areas as well as other test equipment, read/write head · Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Provides guidance to subordinates within the latitude of established company policies. · Recommends changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization(s). · Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends. · Follows processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. · Acts as advisor to subordinate(s) to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems. · Develops and administers schedules, performance requirements; may have budget responsibilities. · Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers and the company. · Often must lead a cooperative effort among members of a project team. · Typically manages, perhaps through subordinate supervisors, the coordination of the activities of a section or department with responsibility for results, including costs, methods and staffing. REQUIRED · Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering · 8 years of Mechanical Engineering experience. · 5 years servo format experience, or equivalent electrical and mechanical experience. · Leadership / decision making skills. · Ability to travel internationally and domestic. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS · Disk drive experience. · Experience with vibration control and isolation, modal test and analysis, part design, test and documentation, data analysis, automated production equipment, thermal controls (liquid and air cooled systems), circuit card and flex design, machine trouble shooting and repair, documentation BOM control, part ordering and stocking. · Ability to multi task and prioritize.
