To work within multi-disciplinary teams on major development projects, applying your engineering abilities to implement sophisticated technologies into new products. You will be taking the lead mechanical design role on multidisciplinary projects, including hands-on product development, design of mechanical systems and components, systems engineering, as well as taking the lead role in planning, proposal & concept generation, project management and liaison with clients. You will also use your strong creative and technical skills to make a significant contribution to development projects and to participate in consultancy work within client companies. You will be expected to liase with others across many engineering disciplines and be responsible for specifying, designing and executing experimental programmes with teams of scientists and technicians. You will manage tasks within projects requiring delivery within tight timescales and budgets, managing both internal and external resources. There are opportunities for this side of the role to develop rapidly into management of projects including having full responsibility for delivery to our clients. Minimum requirements To meet the demanding requirements of this role, you will have an excellent first degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline. You should also have significant industrial experience in product development, with a proven ability to manage a team of engineers and technicians. There should be evidence of excellence within the work you have been responsible for. You will have a creative approach to problem solving and concept generation, an appreciation of the use of engineering analysis tools in product development and have had hands-on experience of 3D CAD (preferably Pro/Engineer Wildfire and Solidworks). You should also have detailed knowledge of rapid prototyping methods and numerical analysis using FEA and CFD. Direct experience of product development in the power generation or cleantech industry would be beneficial as well as an in depth knowledge of fluid dynamics and thermal management.
