Phil - Indeed - where would we be without slightly irritating CAD systems with endless SPs? I think it was a Ford executive who said if they sold cars the way CAD companies sold software (i.e. incomplete at time of purchase, requiring service packs to fix the mistakes) then they would not survive... Probably not the best analogy
This drives me insane. Sometimes (and I don't know how it happens) I hit undo (probably using a keyboard shortcut with fat fingers) and it takes me back a ridiculous amount of steps and there's no way to redo. This can be horrifying if a model isn't saved regularly enough, and it is particularly painful to watch because it animates the reversal of each step right in front of your eyes.
Hi Gareth I have a habbit that I taught myself, dont know if it is a good or bad one, but I tend to spam the save button when I do any type of design or drawing... Sometimes saves my as.... I mean design when I need it... Use it, don't use it...
I do usually tend to hit "CTRL+S" like I have some kind of nervous twitch in my left hand, but Sod's Law dictates that when I have this lovely "can't redo" problem I haven't saved for a few minutes...
"Hide" a feature annoyance Here's a new one folks. This was responsible for quite a lot of hassle today! If you look at the screencap below you will see that the last feature of my model is a chamfer. Well, today a part I was working on became completely invisible both on its own and within an assembly . The model structure was still there - looked absolutely normal and without errors - but no matter what I did I couldn't get ANY geometry to display. After 2 calls to the helpdesk and multiple attempts at frigging around with my graphics card drivers, the support guy finally figured out that I had accidentally "hidden" the chamfer (basically my fat uncoordinated fingers clicked the wrong icon). The annoying thing is that hiding the chamfer actually hides the geometry of the ENTIRE model (what's the point of that?). Even more annoying is that there's no visible way off seeing if a feature is hidden. I was lucky that the support guy knew about this one...

OK, so I don't do this a lot - one more try.... To stop the annoying flag popping up try this: In System options on the Backup/Recover tab un-tick the box "Show reminder if document has not been saved for: Just don't blame me if you crash with a lot of unsaved changes (Like I do sometimes!)
Gareth, I have always been able to disable this alert in the Options dialog > Backup/Recover (System Options). There should be a checkbox at the bottom of that screen that says "Show reminder if document has not been saved for: <scrollbox>". If that checkbox is not there then yes, that seems to be a bug, but I have never personally seen it disappear or be grayed out.
Sometimes I'll be using the arc tool and it will randomly shift to the line tool... Don't even get me started on Solidderps method of viewing objects. If there's one thing Inventor got right, it was the camera/viewing angles.
