      I am just a entry level mechanical engineer, I would like to upgrade myself and some new stuffs. So I did some research and figure out that six sigma maybe one of the useful skills as an engineer. Are there any friends here would like to share their experiences of the six sigma? Are there any softwares or skills that also useful to the professional engineer in the futures? Thank you.

      ISO 900 Six Sigma, QS9000, management and quality fads come and go. Most companies have somebody who specializes in that stuff; unless you want to be that guy (lucrative but boring) you're better off refining your technical skills as long as you have a basic understanding of whatever system your company uses.

      I agree with Dana.
      The Quality Management is the last thing in which I would specialize. I'd prefer to refine my knowledge and skills in other fields:
      - Mechanical Desing;
      - Composite Materials;
      - Robotics;
      - Renewable Energy;
      - FEM

      Don't care about CAD softwares because one is, more or less, equal to the other: the approach is the same, what change are just the icons:D

      A good designer must have good understanding about the quality level your design is at.That is also about the specification.Design is crucial to quality.Better to read some articles on design for six sigma even if your company does not use this methodology.

      Thank you for all the suggestions. After day to day works, I just find that I need to update myself but dont know how to start. And which one is more important?

      Here is my advice, make yourself sure that you have the ability to apply (not just understand, that is OK but not enough) almost all of the basic knowledge in engineering, and than you will know that 6 sigma and other important things are just the cherry on the top of the ice cream. It makes the whole picture from you more desirable on the job market.

      the sound technical knowledge and the ability to apply it to solve technical problem is the most important thing an engineer can do_Other courses like Six sigma are there to help us to design in quality rather than inspecting quality

      As an entry-level mechanical engineer, it's great that you're looking to upgrade yourself and learn new things. Six Sigma is indeed a useful skill for engineers. It helps with process improvement and reducing errors. Regarding software, learning CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks can be super helpful for creating designs. Additionally, developing skills in project management and communication can make you a well-rounded professional engineer.
