      Hi all,

      How long would base x need to be so that the stand would not tip over?

      Depends entirely on how much side loading you plan to have. If subjected to 1 gravity lateral acceleration, base would need to be as wide as the column is tall. If subjected to zero lateral load, then x>0 is suitable.

      If the only forces are vertical, calculate where the center of gravity of your system is. Make sure the base goes outside that location.
