      Hi all,

How long would base x need to be so that the stand would not tip over?

      Thanks

Depends entirely on how much side loading you plan to have. If subjected to 1 gravity lateral acceleration, base would need to be as wide as the column is tall. If subjected to zero lateral load, then x>0 is suitable.

      Hi JPfalt,

      Thanks for your reply.

Please see amended sketch. Would you mind if you could elaborate on the calculations involved with updated annotations (or do I need to provide more information?)

      Appreciate your time.
      Thanks

If the only forces are vertical, calculate where the center of gravity of your system is. Make sure the base goes outside that location.
