      Let's see.....

      1. The Iron Man suit

      2. Human powered car that can go at least 70 MPH

      3. Practical flying car

      4. Laser Rifle (not very "mechy", but whatever....)

      5. Armored Core (from a video game; ginormous robots with missles and guns that fly about...)

@michael - When you design those, Im so going to prototype them and make one for me and one for you.

For sure want the iron man suit and laser gun right off the bat.

If I were to design something I would design

      Gloves for video gaming
      Digital Measuring Cup
Flying Car - yeah I said it
Clone my DMLS machine using sintered parts
Jet Pack - this reverts back to the iron man suit, jet pack must include laser gun!

When you get that one ready, I will be your first customer! Price is no object!

      In no particular order:

A space station (not a kludge like the ISS, a commercial one with hotel rooms and all the ammenities, as in 2001).

A fully automated restaurant (think Larry Niven's "Intent to Deceive", without the malfunctions). Robot waiters, but the kitchen could (should) still be humans. I tend to daydream on this one whenever a waitress is inattentive.

An aerobatic ultralight airplane (OK, I'm doing that now).

A recreational submarine for two or three people.

My own house (that likely will happen some day).

All very good lists and ones that spark my memory on things I wish I had more time to design.

      1) Voltron. When I was a kid, I always imagined the Voltron Lions (even vehicles) all parked in my parents' back yard.
      2) Invention #1 rolling in my head. It has to do with elevators.
      3) Invention #2 rolling in my head. It has to do with room air fresheners.
      4) Something big: airplane, train, personal transport vehicle, rocket, something aerospace related. I'm always designing things smaller and lighter, I want to go big and heavy for once.
      5) The next big thing you can't live without but never knew you needed.

      1) garageable single stage to orbit aircraft
      2) seven league boots
      3) an omnivorous electric power source - something that can use trash, banana peels, beer cans, fruit bats, orangutans, breakfast cereal etc to power a house/ car/ seven league boots. Kind of like mr fusion
      4) a totally convincing virtual reality ( like the matrix) into which all busybody tell-me_how_to_run_my_life do-gooders would be placed, allowing them to spend their ambition despotically ruling the life of virtual drones instead of real people
      5) invent something that would make it so that a husband can, sometimes, not be wrong.

I know - this is totally crazy and impossible - so I will change that last one to "time travel"

Maybe worth starting a thread of what people have designed. Without it coming across as a bragging competition.

I'd love to design something which everyone would really want but also really need. My favorite kind of design is when you look at it and just applaud the inventor on innovator.
