      Is there a standardised table of torque settings for stainless steel (A2) machine screws into aluminium Al 6082-T6?

      I am looking for torque settings for M2.5 / M3 / M4 /M5 /M6 etc screws.

      It seems like there is so much conflicting info out there. How to you go about deciding on a setting?

      according to my good old school notes:

      the maximum strenght on a screw is determined by:

      -the strenght of the minimal crosssection of the screw
      -the shear around the bolts/holes min/max diameter (with an extra safty factor)

      so, the maximum torque allowed cannot be placed in a table as is depends on the lengt of the screw that fits into the thread of the hole.

      hope you have an idea how to calculate it now

      There isnt a chart that I would reccomend unfortunatly. Bolt/Screw torque is dependent on the application, and I'm sure the materials. Stainless hardware going into aluminum threaded parts may be significantly different than another material/screw combo... I'm sure you knew this already. Try googling torque and tension in stainless fasteners or something like that. Would it also make sense to calculate the thread shear in both materials?

      I can give you a list of torque settings which we used for the design of electro-optical equipment when I worked for British Aerospace Systems & Equipment. They are for stainless screws into aluminium alloy, usually with helicoils (which is recommended).

      M2 - 0.3 Nm
      M2.5 - 0.6 Nm
      M3 - 1.0 Nm
      M4 - 2.25 Nm
      M5 - 4.5 Nm
      M6 - 8.0 Nm
      M8 - 19.5 Nm
      M10 - 39.0 Nm
