So apart from you CAD software what other training have you had? I've been getting Solidworks training paid for by the company, and I was thinking, that since I do a lot of sheet metal, and weldment drawings, about getting a few actual fab classes under my belt.

I've been in manufacturing for 26 years. 10 years on the floor as CNC Machinist, Welder, Brake Press Operator. 16 years in engineering. Take a few fab class may help a bit, but those are geared toward the details of the task of how to make the part. I would high recommend you study https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DFMA or https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=DFMA. Also get yourself a $300 subscription to MySolidWorks training to obtain a CSWE. Look at DFMexpress on SolidWorks. That's a good start!
