Standard mold parts are present in most modern molds.A whole mold making industry has been created which manufactures and suppliesstandard mold componets based on a catalogue selection and order system.Faster delivery and financially competitive are ones of the major attractions to the mold maker. It is also an important factor if the mold has break down and it is required for production.
The advantages of using standard mold components include:
      (Ⅰ)Shorter mold construction lead time.
      (Ⅱ)Increased machining capacity in hourse.
      (Ⅲ)Ease of mold maintenance.
      (Ⅳ)Reduce mold downtime.
      (Ⅴ)Reduce the overall long-term costs.
The main disadvantage concerned with the use of standard mold components tends to be associated with the following:
(Ⅰ)Reliance upon one specific source of supply.
(Ⅱ)Failure to supply on time It is a rare occurrence with most suppliers, but it should be considered the delivery time quoted by supplier and place order on time.
(Ⅲ)Mistake in part ordering caused longer mold downtime.
      (Ⅳ)Standard mold base system.
      (Ⅴ)Accessory components,like ejection,slide,cooling and so on.

Thanks! I was actually on the fence about this topic too. I recently had a machine breakdown and a supplier had a delay in my order so one of our molds is down longer than expected. I was considering the alternatives but using standard mold components is just so convenient for maintenance. It's a bit of a conundrum.
