      This must have been an amazing project to work on. Pretty cool video too - check it out.

      Back in the early 90's I was working on some flight hardware for JPL at a tier one engineering supplier to them (Loral EOS in Pasadena, RIP sold off to Lockheed/Martin). Anyway, one of our JPL liason engineers spent a lot of time sketching out 4, 6 and 8 wheel vehicle suspension architectures, settling on 6 wheels, then optimizing the kinematics of that. When I asked he would say "just something he was playing around with". It ended up being the reference rover suspension for future systems. Yes, cool stuff..
